Espanyol sign Martin Petrov

Martin Petrov passed his medical with Espanyol today, Monday, and signed his new contract tying him to the club until the end of the season. The Catalan club reserves the right to renew his contract for another year. The former Bolton player, who turns 34 this week, is Espanyol's first winter reinforcement.

Petrov, who played under Javier Aguirre during his stint at Atlético de Madrid, will train with his new teammates today and be presented later on. Espanyol is also looking to swipe the Colombian player Pabón on a loan deal, who currently plays for Parma in Italy. The Mexican manager has requested a striker to shore up his front line, but the directors may also sign a right winger.

The club is confident that it can offload some players who are looking to move, such as Ernesto Galán and Rui Fonte. It is also looking to loan out Cristian Gómez, who has sparked interest from Panathinaikos, as well as other clubs.
